The muse of Oak-Tex is my mother. Like my mother’s stature, our company currently stands small yet mighty. She has faced adversity however with prayer and determination has overcome many obstacles. in her life as she had to completely start life over when my father, her then husband left home without word after 35 years of marriage and 40 years together. I watched her rise from a dark place and though it wasn't pretty… she made it to a healthier side of the devastation. She started her life over at the age of 55 years old. She and my autistic sister were abandoned. I left my federal career and joined her and my sister in starting a new beginning. We, including my then 4 year old son, boarded a plane from Maryland to Houston, TX determined to find our way. We had little money however our vision and energy was high.
1 year later, Oak-Tex is operational. Oak-Tex represents the street my mother grew up on in Pennsylvania call Oak Street and the “Tex” represent where she currently is living, in Texas. Oak-Tex represents her story… how she overcame adversity through prayer /manifestation and growing from that pain… small yet mighty.
She is a phenomenal cook and through Oak-Tex, has put that love and passion in delivering her childhood favorite, and a Philadelphia staple- the cheesesteak.
